Aussies everywhere are claiming this mum’s refreshed linen closet is “cupboard goals”, and she says it’s all thanks to a trip to Kmart.

How did a company failing in 2008 turn around to become a giant in homewares and fashion with a dedicated social media following?

A Melbourne mum has shared the two secret weapons to her elegant linen cupboard transformation — Marie Kondo and Kmart.

Kayla Bombardier has shocked thousands of Aussie organisational enthusiasts everywhere with before and after photographs of her DIY overhaul of her closet.

The 31-year-old mother-of-one built a home in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges with her fiance, Nick Sheppard, 34, in 2017.

Now, with their seven-month-old daughter Ari, the couple run a homewares company, Bombardier Designs, based in their home.

Kayla said she has been working to organise every space in her home with help from bargain shops and Marie Kondo.

“My linen cupboard was a project I have been wanting to do since we finished building our home,” she told news.com.au.

“I’ve always wanted to organise every aspect of the house but working on our business had always taken priority.”

Kayla said the arrival of her daughter Ari added “a little more chaos to our home”, prompting her to start getting organised.

“Since then, she has given me the motivation to create a better work-life balance by organising my home,” Kayla said.

According to Kayla, with a little inspiration from the organisation queen, Marie Kondo, and some thrifty help from Kmart, she was able to overhaul her entire linen closet on a shoestring budget.

According to Kayla, her linen cupboard was a cluttered space in the beginning, with barely any shelving, where things would just be “stuffed” behind a closed door.

“I found some monochrome baskets from Kmart which I liked and, by luck, they fit in the space perfectly.”

According to Kayla, this part of the project was the most expensive, costing $120 for all ten baskets, but made the most difference to her space.

In accordance with Marie Kondo’s scriptures, Kayla then got to work sorting through her cupboards possessions, piece by piece.

“I began clearing out the clutter, I couldn’t believe how many sets of sheets and pillowcases I had accumulated over the years,” she said.

Using a $39 Dymo Label Maker she picked up from Kmart, Kayla was then able to print out labels to give her pieces a special home.

She also purchased a Command Self Adhesive Broom Holder for $8 from Kmart to keep her broom off the floor.

“It’s such a relief to finally have it done and be able to close the door without everything falling on me,” she said.

Just $167 and a day of organising later, and Kayla turned her shabby linen closet into a chic space she said she was proud to show off.

She said she wanted to share her new space with her 60,000 Instagram followers and was looking forward to starting the next project, the couple’s work studio.

Thousands of people commented on her posts, claiming to be totally inspired by her elegant styling to organise their closets.

Most of her fans were fascinated by Kayla’s baskets, and were astounded when she told them they were from Kmart.

Others claimed the space was total “cupboard goals”, pledging to start on their own closest immediately.
